Tulsa listed in top 10 metro areas for growth in green jobs
8.25.2011In a recent infographic article discussing “green” jobs, Tulsa was highlighted as one of top 10 metro areas that have experienced the greatest growth in green jobs between 2003 and 2010.
Tulsa boasts an 8.3 percent average annual increase in number of green jobs, a separate economy the article calls a “silver bullet” for economic woes experienced in some industries and geographical areas across the nation. In the decade that ended in 2007, the green economy expanded three times faster than the economy as a whole.
In addition, these green jobs are a promising alternative for the average worker in industries like manufacturing, where 26 percent of all green jobs are hired, compared to 9 percent in the economy at large.
In industries like green-tech, where the expected employee would be a higher-degree-holding middle manager, the average worker is also gaining ground.
“Nearly 69 percent of all green-economy jobs are middle-class, middle-income positions—compared to 43 percent of all American jobs,” the article states.
