Dairy manufacturer establishes U.S. headquarters in Tulsa

11.20.2009

Mexico-based Campo Alegre opened its first U.S. operation in Tulsa because of the city’s central location and capacity for local plants to produce its products. The dairy manufacturer will use the Tulsa office as a U.S. sales headquarters, and in two to three years, will begin manufacturing, employing around 150 people with an investment of $20-$30 million.

The company, started in 1991 in Sahuayo Michoacán, makes cheese, dressings and seeds and will utilize Oklahoma-made products for some ingredients, including powdered milk, condensed milk and soft drinks.

Carlos Ochoa, President of Campo Alegre, said the U.S. is an untapped market for the company, with its Hispanic population of around 50 million. The company currently employs approximately 120 employees in Mexico.
